Question
A thundersnow took place this morning.
Why are these weather events so unusual?
What factors contribute to thundersnows taking place?

Thank you:-)

Answer
Hi Philip

Thunderstorms typically take place in warmer seasons than winter. The reason for this is that there is more convection, i.e. more thermal updrafts.
