Meteorology (Weather)/Tornado information

I'm watching the weather channel and wondering  what's the point in using resources to continue studying tornados and hurricanes? I would think everything about the storms themselves is known. The problem is how to control or weaken or stop them and I personally don't think that will happen by just watching the storms tear up a town.

Sorry and Thank you.

Hi Allen

There are three reasons to have further research into understanding tornadoes:

1. To improve forecasting of them along with giving longer lead times for alerts.

2. To learn more about exactly how they form.

3. Improve the understanding of methodologies for creating structures that will
  survive direct hits.

As to stop or weaken them, the research so far has not been productive and there is not a
lot of confidence that the problem will ever have a solution.
