AboutWayne Tucker Expertise I will attempt an answer to any question you care to ask about the United Methodist Church, or any other matter of faith.
Experience I am an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church. I have been a pastor since January, 1988. I am a member of the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. M.Div. Christian Theological Seminary, 1991
Question One of my friends just changed from catholic to methodist, she is much happier and attends chruch now. I wanted to know how to become methodist. Also like being catholic you must make your communication and confirmation to get married in church also if you have a child the godparents must be catholic and prove they go to church is this the same?
Answer Krissy,
To be a United Methodist, you must attend a United Methodist church, request a transfer to the church, undertake the new member training that congregation employs (and that varies widely), and take the vows of membership in a service of worship. We believe that weddings are occasions for us to exhibit and share the grace of God. Neither person needs to be a United Methodist prior to, or after, the wedding. We don't often utilize godparents. That is a choice of the child's parents. If they want to designate godparents, that is up to them.
I hope this helps. I am glad your friend is happier. You might want to give it a try yourself.
