Methodists/Altar in the Methodist Church

The united Methodist church in urban locations is not comparable to the rural Methodist church of the past.  I wonder what Billy Graham would say if you told him the alter is not the place to come before the throne of grace for yourself or as help to someone that has never given their life to Jesus. One hundred years ago small churches of almost every denomination knew what the alter was and what it was for.
