Mexican Law/divorce Mexico or USA

My dad got married in michoacan, Mexico 40 years ago.  His wife left him 3 years after they got married.  He came to the calif, US 35 years ago.  They never got divorced.  She has always lived  in mexico, to the present now.   Now my dad wants a divorce so everything can be leagal.  Is it better to file the divorce here in US or in mexico?  Does it matter were it's filed?  Is she entitled to half his property that he has here in the US, even though they been separated for 38 years.  Does the divorce in Mexico have to be filed were they were married?  Does he have to go to Mexico or can a lawyer file everything for him.  Do you know a website or information were he can find a list of honest/reputable lawyers?   Thank you for all your time, help, and answers.

Hi, the divorce should be filed usually in the residence of the defendant.  One can also do a divorce giving power of attorney to someone.  Finding an honest lawyer, well.... maybe I can help if your issue is in the state of Jalisco.  I am a member of two bar associations, La Barra Mexicana de Abodagos and ANADE, these two groups usually have a higher class of attorney as continuing education is promoted.
