Question
Hello,
We will be going to Mayan Palace Riveria Maya, address is
Cancun, Playa Del Carmen
Rivera Maya Qu

It is about 20 miles south of the airport.  We were going to rent a car.  We have done this one other time about 2 years ago to go close to Tulum for a wedding. We are wanting to know if this is our best thing to do.  We know it is not that easy to drive. We have reserved a car with a very good price but are unsure as if to cancel and take taxie's everywhere.  We were not big on driving but did not want to be stuck.

Don't know if parking is an issue? If locals drive as bad as the trip to Tulum?

The place we are staying will shuttle you to the grocery for a fee and we can take taxi's but they make it sound like it is a little pricy.

We just want to do the best and easiest and most economical for the trip.

Thank you,
Tonja

Answer
I don't recommend renting a car and driving in the Cancun area as there are to many cases of police officers taking advantage of Americans and making them pay high fees for real or "assumed" traffic violations.  If you booked the resort through a travel agent, have them add on transfers for you.  If you booked the hotel on your own than I highly recommend that you book transfers with Lomas Travel.

I use the for all my transfers in the Cancun area and for all my tours.  They are a great a reliable company!

The Mayan Palace is very close to Playa del Carmen, and a taxi will only cost about $15 US each way to town.  The hotel may even have scheduled transportation to town, as most of the resorts in that area provide free daily shuttles to town.

Have a great vacation!

Pam
