AboutDenny Beroiz Expertise I can provide current information on hotels, beach houses, surfing spots, golfing, transportation and restaurants in Northern Baja, Mexico. I can provide Internet links to Northern and Southern Baja lodging.
Experience Baja California questions, please. I have travelled the Baja for 38 years. I have driven the length of Baja more than once and know the cities of Rosarito Beach, Ensenada, Guerrero Negro, San Ignatio, Santa Rosalia, Mulege, Loreto and La Paz. I have not spent much time in San Felipe.
Question Denny,
Hope you can help...
Some background - i have flights booked in september to fly into San Diego and then fly out from Los Cabos a week later. The intention was to hire a car and then drive from TJ down to Los cabos in a week.
HOWEVER - just found out about the massive drop off charge for car rentals and now can't afford to do it. Guessing there is no way round this?!
So - as the flights are non refundable, looks like my only option is to take a bus down the baha. agreed?
Do you know if it possible to buy a ticket for the whole trip and then get off and on as and when we want? if not - is it much more expensive if we buy single tickets to places in between?
Also, what places would you recommend stopping off bearing in mind we have a week to do it?
We are two 24 year old males who are looking to hit some beaches, see some beautiful sights, do some adventure acitivities and find some nightlife.
Any help, suggestions etc you could provide would be eternally appreciated.
Many thanks
Steve
Answer Steve,
You can buy a round trip ticket on the Mexican Bus lines in TJ to Cabo. It takes the bus 22-24 hours to get to one end or the other and yes you can get off and back on. Check any of my other responses regarding the subject of buses in Baja for more details. La Paz has the greatest beaches just east of town. There is fishing, snorkeling and diving and it is some of the best in Baja. There isn't much nightlife in La Paz, but it is not totally shut down like all the other cities south of Ensenada. Cabo is Cabo as they say. I would not spend any time there, but for curiousity sake you can try one night. Going south, I wouldn't get off the bus before La Paz. Maybe you will see something you would want to explore on your way down. You can always see it on the way back. Loreto kinda sucks for visitors. Mulege is a quiet village of American and Canadian retirees. Santa Rosalia would be interesting for a few hours to walk around town. San Ignacio is really only two blocks around an old church. Guerrero Negro is mostly a place to get gas. All the other places until Ensenada do not have anything for two 24 year olds to do when on a bus trip. Ensenada is not a place to stop. Rosarito is OK and very close to the border if you find you have a day left over. You can always get a local bus to the border for less than $10 from Rosarito.
