About Pamela Thompson
Expertise
I have lived in Puerto Vallarta for 17 years, full time, originally from the United States. I have a lot of great information on the area, and surrounding areas that I enjoy sharing with people planning their vacation to Puerto Vallarta. Unique and interesting facts and hints on the area. As well, I am the Patient and International Services Coordinator at a hospital here in Vallarta so I am happy to assist with healthcare questions.

Experience
No great accomplishments, just that I have lived here, year round for many years!

Mexico - cashing personal checks and/or travelers checks

Expert: Pamela Thompson - 10/8/2009

Question
I have a account with a Santander bank in the US.  I need to know if I can cash a personal check from my bank in the US for Mexican pesos at the Santander bank in Puerto Vallarta.  I have also heard that banks are no longer converting travel checks into pesos, is this true?  Any information you can supply will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Answer
Hi,
You will not be able to cash a personal check from the US ANYWHERE here! You can use your ATM card though. Some banks are not changing traveler's checks but there are still plenty of places that do (casas de cambio, etc) so that should not be a problem. Please feel free to email me directly at pmt15@hotmail.com
Regards, Pamela - PV
