Expert: Mario González-Román - 11/2/2009
Question We are wanting to drive across either the Laredo Bridge or the Columbia Bridge this coming December but have been strongly advised not to due to Security reasons. Is it safe right now or do you advise against it?

Was the victim, three times, in the late 60s of violent crime in the streets of Los Angeles. Last time, got stabbed. Today this situation is even worse than then. Have been in training by the Mississippi State Police. There are some neighborhoods in Jackson where police simply do not enter. They are no man's zone. Same applies to largest urban areas in the USA.
Now, if you trust your State Department, please try this

Take note of what they are saying about .. Swine Flu and then proceed to check out their official page
Nuevo Laredo: Calle Allende 3330, col. Jardin, telephone (52)(867) 714-0512. http://nuevolaredo.usconsulate.gov/
After you've assessed all of the above, my suggestion is you make your own decision.
