Question Hi Christy,
I am a young 71 year old woman looking for a reasonable rental in the lake area, I would like to stay about 6 months from January to June, and then decide if I want to stay forever! Want to use this time to travel around the central part of Mexico to see what I like. Wanted to ask if it is better if I don't bring my car (Toyota Prius) or just use buses. I know it would be cheaper, but is it better, or perhaps rent a car? Thanks in advance, Adios, Barbara (working on my spanish already
Answer Hi Barbara. Many people come by plane and use the buses, but we brought our car from Texas, we have German Shepherds that travel with us. I really prefer having my car, so I can come and go as I please. But we were only in Texas, how are are you driving?
Jan of course is our high season, but you still should be ok finding a rental. We have a casita, but someone is in it from Oct. until May 1. If you wanted to come during the off season, our rainy season, you could stay there. It is 600 us a month with wireless internet, dish tv. and telephone. But if you wanted in town, I am sure we can find something there too. We are at the country club, about 12 miles out from Ajijic. The rainy season is great. My favorite time. rains mostly at night, but sometimes we get a few days of day time rain. A city I would also recommend to visit is Morelia. I love it there. It is 4 hours from here, going towards Mexico City. Many many places to visit. If you do drive, let me know, so I can walk you thru the procedure of getting your car permit. Keep in touch. you can also email me at chapalagringo@yahoo.com that is my personal email that I check several times a day. Thanks forgot about the car rental. you can get rent cars now, not like you used to, they were sky high, but they will be expensive I think, about 60 us a day. The buses, I am not quite sure if you are not fluent in Spanish about traveling them. But then again, if you drive your car and you stay on the autopista, toll roads, that can get expensive too.
