Mexico - bringing and keeping a vehicle in mexico

Expert: Pam Smith - 3/6/2009

Question
My husband and I will be retiring in a few years and will be building a house in Mexico at that time. We will bring our 2002 Honda Odyssey van to Mexico with the intention of leaving it here as it will be older. Questions: a)Is this permitted? B) What do we need to do other than get Mexican insurance and the sticker at the border? Is there a special permit ? 3) If we leave the vehicle in Mexico, can we bring another vehicle at a later date if we want to and if the other vehicle already there is no longer driveable?  Thank you for your assistance.

Answer
Hello Elizabeth,

I am sorry to say that I can't answer your questions as this is outside my expertise.  My expertise lies with the tourist side of Mexico such as helping people decide what area and resort would best suit their needs and their budgets.

Please check with one of the other agents that have more experience with with living in Mexico.

Good Luck!

Pam
