Question
We visited Chapala area in fall of 2006.  We are thinking of returning this winter.  Can you please advise what has happened in general to real estate in the area given financial problems in the US and globablly.  Might also be interested in property south of the lake (the alpine town).  Thanks  Terry

Answer
Hi Terry   sorry I have been out of town in Morelia  Property values sky rocketed the last 5 years.  Although now is nothing moving and is a great time to make an offer or to rent.  Mazamitla is the town you are thinking of  Very beautiful, but gets quite cold there.  We bought a 3100 sq ft home in the are of Mirasol, the middle of Ajijic and Chapala. Across from Chula Vista golf course, in March for 155,000 us dollars  it is 10 years old and 4 bedrooms 2 baths.  So people are coming down, the lady had asked 252000 in the beginning. So there are deals here now, nothing is moving, but everyone anticipates it will pick up again in Nov.  Thanks  Chris
