Mexico - jungle

Expert: Lena DeMarco - 4/10/2009

Question
My question is; I want to visit a jungle portion of Mexico that is close to Mexico City airport. I live in Los Angeles California and want to come down with my wife for 4 days. I want to stay somewhere along the coast but with lush jungle. No cactus or desert. Where are the towns with good hotels? I want a nice hotel but still want to get some real green tropical jungle views close to the hotel and ocean. Please tell me where this is. I am not asking for hotel recommendation, just where the jungle is. I have not gotten very south of Ensenada and its all desert.I am not looking for any eco-trek stuff. Just viewing from a hotel window. Please respond.

Answer
Hi Larry,
Try Sayulita, specifically Playa Escondida, Southern part of Puerta Vallarta (where the Intercontinental is located), and further afield Playa Tamarindo. These resort areas are lodged against the Sierra Madres, a chain of mountains that are lush, emerald green and 'jungle-y.' Although you can fly direct from LA (not necessary to go all the way to Mexico City).

Hope this helps!

Best -
Lena
