Mexico - Moving to Merida from Canada

Expert: Ellen Fields - 5/14/2009

Question
I am a Canadian living on a government disability,CPP (I am 55) I want to move to Merida to live full-time and need to know about renting. The costs etc. I live on $920 Can. a month. Can you help?

Answer
The best thing I can do is direct you here to our recent article which outlines how much many things cost here:

Certainly, there are Mexicans who live on less than your disability payments, but there are people who live here on more as well. Unlike in many cities, however, you can find a decent place to live for under $300 US a month... and of course, the rest is up to you. The more you live like someone from here (eat local food, follow local customs), the cheaper it is.

Good luck!
