Mexico/Bus to La Paz from Cabo
Expert: Ann Hazard - 6/27/2009
QuestionQUESTION: I am flying into Cabo airport on July 3d and need to get to get to the pier at La Paz. What would be the best way (expense vs time) to do this? I don't speak Spanish. Thank you.
ANSWER: Hi Stan,
By the "pier" in La Paz, I am unsure if you mean the ferry dock at Pichilingue or the main pier in town which caters to much smaller ships. Either way, you have the option to rent a car, to take a taxi or to take the bus.
Obviously the bus is the cheapest and they are nice, new buses. What you would do is take a taxi from the airport in Cabo to the bus station in San Jose del Cabo. I think you should be able to do this easily without speaking Spanish. The buses leave about every half hour to La Paz and it's about 2.5 hours. The bus will drop you off on the malecon, or waterfront in central La Paz. From there it's a super short walk (about 2 minutes max) to the main pier.
If you want to get to Pichilingue, you can take another bus or a taxi from the bus station. I don't know exactly what it costs, but it's not much. Be sure to get pesos, though as they won't take dollars in La Paz.
A taxi would probably cost you well over $100. And you can check car rental prices online for Cabo. But my recommendation would be the bus for sure.
Buen viaje!

QUESTION: I am sailing into Loreto On July 10th. I need to find the best (value and time) way to either Cabo, La Paz or Los Angeles. Is there regularly scheduled bus service from Loreto and can I buy a ticket when I get to the station, as I don't know exact time I'll be there. Can I walk to the bus station from the docks? Thank you for your response.
AnswerStan,
This looks like a whole different itinerary! Confusing.
Anyway, from Loreto you can get to all three places by bus. Loreto is small, but I am not familiar with the location of the bus station there. It should be fairly close, as in several blocks at most. It's 4 or so hours to La Paz, 6 hours to Cabo and about 20 hours to LA by car or bus. Aguila Bus is the main bus line in Baja.
