Mexico - Canceling a tourist visa

Expert: MéxicoMac - 6/16/2009

Question
We were unable to cancel our visas upon our departure from Ciudad Juarez because "they don't do that on Sundays."  We now live in Portland, Or which is a long way from Juarez.  Can we cancel them at the local Mexican Consulate?

Answer
Tourist Visas FMT's are normally given back to Mexican immigration when leaving the country.  If traveling by air you give your FMT back at the airport, and by car at the US/Mexican border.
See: http://www.costalegre.ca/Mexican_Tourist_Visa.htm

If you did not hand back your tourist visa, they will think you are still in the country.  You should contact the closest Mexican Embassy immediately.  You may have to pay a fine.

Yours,
Federico de Canada
