About Pamela Thompson
Expertise
I have lived in Puerto Vallarta for 17 years, full time, originally from the United States. I have a lot of great information on the area, and surrounding areas that I enjoy sharing with people planning their vacation to Puerto Vallarta. Unique and interesting facts and hints on the area. As well, I am the Patient and International Services Coordinator at a hospital here in Vallarta so I am happy to assist with healthcare questions.

Experience
No great accomplishments, just that I have lived here, year round for many years!

Mexico - trip to PV end of July 09

Expert: Pamela Thompson - 7/3/2009

Question
Hi,
We are thinking of coming to PV for a week the end of July.  I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind piping in on them.

1 - will the rain be a real problem?  Living in Phx,I'd actually love to see some rain, as long as it is an afternoon thing that doesn't ruin the day.

2 - should we rent a car (as we did in cabo) or should we plan to use taxi's to get to dinner etc?  We are staying at the Marriott.

3 - If you have any suggestions on dining places or things to do please let us know your expert opinions.

Best Regards
sandy

Answer
Hola Sandy,
I don't think the rain will be a "problem" but it will definitely rain nearly every day - late afternoon and off and on during the night. That being said, we have probably had the wettest June I can remember! A lot of overcast and drizzly days which is normally only in September. "Normally" the days are clear and hot with the dark rain clouds gathering in the afternoon and lots of rain with booming thunder. The lightening shows out over the bay are tremendous.
Taxi's and buses are plentiful. I don't really recommend renting a car unless you want to go for a daytrip somewhere. Traffic is a nightmare around here (parking mainly). You can take the bus (which stops right in front of the Marriott) and go into downtown-southside. BTW, I think the Marriott is probably my favorite hotel in all of Vallarta. Beautiful and wonderful staff.
There are so many places to eat around here! Trio and Vitae are at the top of my list. La Leche is great. Las Palomas, downtown in the marina is good.
I am in healthcare and not tourism - but I'd recommend taking a boat tour with Pegaso Charters. They have a fabulous day cruise and sunset cruise. You are welcome to email me at pmt15@hotmail.com for further questions! Regards, Pamela T.
