Question
QUESTION: Hi Pam,my wife and I and 2 girls-age(11 and 14) are planning a visit to Puerta Vallarta and Cancun in May 2010. We wanted to ask you the best possible way to get to Vallarta from Carlsbad(CA,USA) and then onwards to Cancun and back to the US-either LA or San Diego.I was told that I could take a flight from Tijuana to Vallarta and then another flight from Vallarta to Cancun and back to Tijuana. The part of how we get to Tijuana from Carlsbad and back from Tijuana to San Diego when we return is my concern. Is it safe to travel and is there a shuttle? How do we book our flights online and what would be the routing as there is no direct flight from Vallarta to Cancun. Is there a H1N1(swine flu) threat in these 2 cities we are visiting? Is the shuttle safe from San Diego to Tijuana? Is there any problem crossing the border?
Regards,

Nauhar Rana

ANSWER: At this time, I do not recommend driving through Tijuana as they are experiencing high crime levels due to the drug wars.  Typically my clients in the Los Angeles area will fly from LAX to their destination in Mexico.  I would suggest you do the same if possible.  Than you can fly from Cancun to Puerto Vallarta, or viceaverse.

Swine flu is now present all over the world, with major precautions being taken everywhere to prevent an outbreak.  All resorts are taking every precaution possible to keep there guests and employees safe, so yes, it is just as safe to travel to Mexico as it is to travel around the United States.

If you would like help with your travel plans, please email me direct and let me know when you wish to travel and what your desires are for resort/hotel accommodations and I will be happy to help.  I am a certified travel agent with clients all over the US, and best of l I do not charge for my services as I get paid by the resorts and tourist companies!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

QUESTION: Hi Pam,
Thank you for your prompt answer and I think we will skip flying out of Tijuana and will now need to fly out of LAX. Is there a flight out of San Diego to Puerta Vallarta?? As we will be in Carlsbad -San Diego is closer. What would the fare be? We are 3 adults and 1 child(11). We plan to go on the  8th May from either LAX or San Diego to Vallarta. Then we go to Cancun from Vallarta on the 15th and stay there for a week and fly back to either LAX or San Diego. What airline will we be flying. Something not too expensive yet reliable. Regards,
Nauhar

Answer
Best round-trip air prices from San Diego are currently with US Airways, with Mexicana Air between Puerto Vallarta and Cancun.  I can't give prices over this website as prices are not guaranteed until they are booked.  I would be happy to assist you with your entire vacation, including transfers and hotel stay.  If you are just needing air (I do not do just air), your best bet is to check prices and availability on Expedia.com, and then book directly with that airline.

As a reminder, everyone that is traveling will be required to have a passport to travel to Mexico.

Contact me direct at the email below if you wish to have assitance with booking your entire vacation, otherwise I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

Sincerely,

Pam
