About Pamela Thompson
Expertise
I have lived in Puerto Vallarta for 17 years, full time, originally from the United States. I have a lot of great information on the area, and surrounding areas that I enjoy sharing with people planning their vacation to Puerto Vallarta. Unique and interesting facts and hints on the area. As well, I am the Patient and International Services Coordinator at a hospital here in Vallarta so I am happy to assist with healthcare questions.

Experience
No great accomplishments, just that I have lived here, year round for many years!

Question
Hi Pamela,
I'm excited to have come across your site. I'm a nurse in San Diego, and my husband and I plan to retire in PV next year. I'd love to know more about the hospital, have been wondering about volunteer work. Also wondering about healthcare in general- can we get Mexican health insurance? And of course, we have lots of general questions about living in PV- looking for a long term rental, trying to decide on which area. Is there a gym, yoga classes, tennis courts, Spanish classes...

Answer
Hi Kathy,
You can see my website at www.healthcareresourcespv.com Best if you email me direct at pamela@healthcareresourcespv.com for the 1,000 questions you will have in making your decision to move here! I am happy to assist.
Have you spent any length of time in the area?
Regarding nursing as volunteer work - not really any in the private or public hospitals here although Regional Hospital (the poorest of the poor) need assistance now and then. But unless you are completely fluent in Spanish, it's a bit difficult. There are though numerous charities that need nurses so you could work non-stop there if you chose to!
Send me your questions and we can get started!
Regards, Pamela Thompson
PS Regarding insurance - there are 3 kinds 1) International (for people that live outside of their home countries either full or part time 2) Mexican Private Insurance (for people that live here full time - but application age tops is 62 years old) 3) IMSS - Seguro Social - this is the government run health system and not all that great!
