Mexico/cell phone advice

Question
If we're in Mexico for a month, what is the best way to get reasonably priced cell phone and messaging service for our US cell phones?  Also do you know anything about cooking schools in Oaxaca that you recommend?

Answer
For cooking schools, Chef Pilar Cabrera of Casa de los Sabores Cooking School is the best (info@casadelossabores.com).  If you want a second one, then Reyna Mendoza of Teotitlán de Valle nicely complements Chef Pilar.  I'm not good with cels, but you have to go somewhere to unlock the chip or phone, but your best option is to buy a phone with a Mexican number, at Tecel on Calzada de la Republica, in Col Reforma, the large outlet west side of the street.  You can get all kinds and prices, starting at about 300 pesos including 100 free pesos of time.
