Experience I have traveled many times to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and the Mayan Riviera, as well as Cozumel. I have been selling vacations to these destinations for many years and I travel to many of the resorts in these popular tourist destinations about once a year.
Question My wife and I are looking for advice on visiting the Cancun area this coming winter. We have free tickets coming to us from JetBlue and they fly direct from here to there.
We've been trying to find an appropriate resort for a trip in late January early February, and have bumped into some trouble. Most notably, the resort that we felt would be best for us (Iberostar) doesn't seem to have any availability.
Please let me outline a bit about ourselves, so you can understand perhaps what we're looking for. We're 44 and 53, and just looking for a vacation for the two of us. The things that have attracted us to the Cancun area include touring historical ruins; eco- stuff (like Xcaret); sedate watersports like kayaking, boogie-boarding and beach swimming; and general comfort and relaxation. We'd like to be someplace where we have access to what we want, but also somewhat insulated from the hubbub of the outside world. We'd like someplace that we won't have much trouble getting to from the airport, and also won't have much trouble getting from the hotel to the historic sites, for example.
My biggest concern isn't so much keeping the price low, but rather being sure that we're not paying too much for what we get. Having said that, we're trying to keep the whole trip, including excursions, to less than $3K (not including airfare of course). Is that possible? What should we be looking for? Where should we be looking?
Answer Hello Brian,
Glad to hear from you, and I think you came to the right place for help with your plans. The Iberostar chain of resorts are one of my favorite, I just love them. Have not been to one that I didn't like. If you would send me your exact dates, I will check to see if I any of my suppliers show availability.
Other than Iberostar, you may be intersted in Aventura Spa Palace, as they include free tours to areas that you are looking forward to seeing. They have lots of actvities, but not a wonderful beach. The beach is man made, but very nice, especailly for snorkeling and other water sedate water activities.
One other resort that may fit your needs is El Dorado Royale. Lots to do and see here as well, and if you can afford to stay in Casita Suites, I highly recommend them. You have private concierge service, semi-private pools (only for Casita guests), reserved beach beds and more.
If you would like some prices quotes, please email me direct, as I can't post prices on this website. Be sure to include your preferred travel dates, so I know what dates to check.
