About Annie
Expertise
I can answer questions about Cozumel from a local`s viewpoint; objective comparisons of hotels, dive operations, car rental agencies, and island "happenings".

Experience
I have lived full-time in Cozumel since 1996, very involved in the dive industry, opened the largest English book store on the island, wrote and distributed an e-newsletter for several years, great contacts including the U.S. Consulate.

Mexico - Cozumel diving & snorkeling

Expert: Annie - 5/25/2004

Question
Hi Annie, I am going to Cozumel next month for the first  time. My wife and son dive and would like to make a couple of trips. My daughter and I snorkel. Do you have any suggestions? We'll be staying just north of Playa Del Carmen. We're only staying for a week. I'm thinking, two day trips, to Cozumel for diving/snorkeling. Are there boats that do both or would it be better to have them go out on a dive boat and my daughter and I go on a snorkel boat? Or are there good places to snorkel on the coast. I know, lots of questions, but, like I said it's our first time there.
Thanks Ray

Answer
Hi Ray,
There are boats that will do both diving and snorkeling.  A good operation that deals with families often is Scuba Shack.  If you make arrangments with them ahead of time, they might even be able to reserve a boat just for you guys.  Email them at:  robertac@prodigy.net.mx.  Roberta is the owner of the shop and she will be happy to work out a schedule for you.  They can pick out some good spots that will be good for both diving and snorkeling so everybody can see lots of good stuff.  There are some good places to snorkel along the coast, but you really need your own vehicle to do it right, and for a day trip that can get to be a hassle, renting a car and then you don't really know where you are going!  I'd stick with the boat trip for the first day, then maybe decide what you want to do for another day.  Too bad you aren't staying here on the island!  Hope this helps...have a great time!

Annie
