AboutRon Russell Expertise I lived full time in the Chapala-Ajijic area for 7 years, and now Manzanillo area 4 years. During that time I provided information (health care, working papers, immigration, driving, cost of living, insurance, culture, divorce in Mexico, trusts vs direct deed, etc) to help people make the decision about whether the area was right for them, either full or part-time.
Now living north of Manzanillo on the Pacific Coast. I live legally in Mexico.

I am considering coming to Ajijic to have a lot of dental work done. I have been attracted to Mexico since I was a kid and wonder if this would be a good place to have my teeth worked on as well as finally spending some time here. I have connected with one dentist in Ajijic and he seems to take a natural approach, which is what I want. But I don't know anyone who has been to him. Would you be able to give me a recommendation? I was thinking of staying for a month and renting a small house near the office, so that I won't need to rent a car. Are buses available to get around to the west side? Or bicycle rentals? Would that be feasible? I am an ESL teacher and wonder if there is the possibility of work, if I decide that I love it there. Well, here's a plethora of questions for you! Aloha, Kathy
Answer Hola Kathy, Dentistry is cheaper here. I only know one dentist, Dra. Rocio Vidrio, our Dentist. She is located across from the Pemex gas station in Ajijic on the second floor at Carr. Ajijic Oriente No. 58. Phone 766-3682. No email. We like her.
The bus service is excellent, but you can walk just about everywhere in the village. Except in May, our hottest month and not advisable to take long walks in the afternoon. By late June though we have wonderful temperatures, it is our favourite time of the year. Not sure about bike rentals, but there are a couple of bike shops on the Carretera near the traffic lights that have used and new bikes for sale.
There are many people giving English and Spanish lessons in our area. If you want to volunteer, the Wilkes Centre in the Lake Chapala Society has classes for Mexican children in learning English. Be sure to visit the LCS when you are here anyway.
Hope that helps,
Ron
