Now living north of Manzanillo on the Pacific Coast. I live legally in Mexico.

Experience

Have driven extensively in the area, to the coast (Manzanillo, Puerto Vallarta, Colima),to Patzcuaro, etc. Bused to Mexico City, flew to Chiapas. Also driven in Honduras, from Ontario Canada through border crossings at Laredo and Reynosa Texas to Lakeside. Can provide instructions and border crossing info. Mexico - Mariachi festival 2005

Expert: Ron Russell - 4/15/2005

Question
Hello, Ron:
(1) I am having trouble finding out the exact date of the Guadalajara mariachi festival this fall.

(2) Am also told that the Teatro Degollada is currently under rennovation and work may not be completed in time for this year's mariachi concerts.

(3) Should I/can I buy tickets for the Teatro Degollada performances ahead of time?

(4) If I stay in Tlaquepaque will I have trouble getting into and out of Guadalajara - what is the bus service like and does it run late into the evening?

Answer
Yes it is difficult finding out this info even living here.

A good website to look at and post on the FORUM is:

www.mexconnect.com/mex_/guadalajara/guadalajara.html

You might also try sending email to

    inter_mariachi@hotmail.com

1-This year festival is Sept 1-15

2-The Theatre is under renovation but completion date ?

3-I don't know.

4-Tlaquepaque is quite a distance from the Historic Centre but bus transportation is pretty good, allow lots of time during the festival. We always drive in early from Ajijic for the parade and have no problems finding parking and good spots for viewing.

Hope that helps,
   Ron
