Question Hi! My family (husband, wife and 2 kids - 6 & 9 yrs) are scheduled to leave for Mazatlan in August for a week. We plan to be in Mazatlan for 3 days and see if we can visit other neighboring town. Is Puerto Vallarta close to Mazatlan? If not, could you give us any suggestions as to what other cities that is close by we can visit? We are also flying out of Mazatlan to the U.S. so we need to be back a day before our scheduled flight?
Answer Puerto Vallarta is about a 6 hour drive from Mazatlan. You can travel there by car if you are not afraid to drive the roads of Mexico. I would recommend just spending your time in the Mazatlan area. Enjoy some relaxing time, and a few tours. The hotel you are staying at would be happy to recommend some tours. I would also recommend that you go to your local book store and purchase a book about Mazatlan and read up about what is nearby that you can visit. A good book to check out is: Adventure Guide: Mazatlan
by Vivien Lougheed. Here is a website with some more information about Mazatlan: http://www.igougo.com/travelcontent/destinationHome.aspx?locationID=1626
If you do travel outside of Mazatlan, I would recommend being back in town the day before your flight. This gives you peace of mind, because you defiently don't want to rush back the day of your flight and find that something has happened that causes you to miss your flight.
I hope you have a great time in the Mazatlan area. I would love to hear how your trip was, so please drop me an email when you get home :-)
