Experience I have traveled many times to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and the Mayan Riviera, as well as Cozumel. I have been selling vacations to these destinations for many years and I travel to many of the resorts in these popular tourist destinations about once a year.
My fiance and I are trying to plan our wedding to take place sometime next year and we would love to have it in Mexico, preferably in a beach area along the Pacific Coast. I was looking into places such as La Paz, Cabos San Lucas, Puerto Vallara or even Acapulco. We would like to visit one of these areas to get more information and see what we can actually plan towards (lodging, ceremony, reception, etc.). We hope to visit within the next 2 months or so. Can you provide any suggestions on location? I'm currently pretty partial to La Paz...what do you think? Also, how is the weather during the end of summer beginning fall in those areas? Know of any good wedding planners in the areas I've listed or know of a good resource to scout one out?
Your feedback is very much appreciated!
Answer Thank you for writting. I will be glad to help you anyway I can. First, I am not real familiar with La Paz. I know it is a great destination for those looking to live in Mexico, but it isn't a great destination for resorts.
If you are looking for an all inclusive resort the best options will be Cabo or Puerto Vallarta. Acapulco is still popular, but not as much as it used to be.
The weather is great there that time of the year. Depending on when exactly you travel you may be on the downside of the high summer temperatures. In September the temps average around the high 80's to low 90's.
If you stay at a resort, they typically have an onsite wedding coordinator that will asssit you with your wedding plans. I would be happy to suggest some resorts, if you would give me an idea of your budget and the type of resort you are looking for. There are just to many options out there to start listing resorts without knowing a few facts :-)
Another option that may or may not interest you is a cruise. A cruise will take you to several of the popular destinations on Mexico's Pacific coast. You will have to get married on the ship, and not in Mexico due to the residency and blood tests required by Mexico, but you will be able to see a wide variety of locations. If you don't want to marry on a cruise, then it would be a good way for you to check out the different areas without spending a fortune on airfare to get to all the locations. Carnival has a ship that departs out of Los Angeles and visits, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo.
Speaking of requirements, Mexico does have some pretty tough marriage requirements. Tough enough that most of my clients get legally married in the US and just have a ceremony in Mexico. Requirements for a legal wedding in Mexico include being in Mexico at least 3 days before the wedding, blood tests and x-rays performed and if you are widowed or divorced you can't marry until at least one year after the death or divorce. Basically you have to get married two times, once at the Civil Registers office and then the "religious" ceremony where ever you want.
Hope this isn't an overload of information. It may be quicker and better if you email me direct with your questions answers to my questions.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon and possibly working with you on your destination wedding plans.
