Mexico - bus travel

Expert: Pam Smith - 7/18/2007

Question
Hi there! I'm travelling to Puerto Vallarta for a few days and then heading up to Mazatlan. Is it easy to catch a bus up there? How would I go about doing this (generally)?

Thanks so much for your time!

Answer
I am not real familiar with this but I did a little research and the best bet is to go to the bus station and buy your ticket a few days before you want to travel.  It is advised that you buy a ticket for the "Clase Executivo" or the "Primera Clase" bus.  These are larger motorcoach type busses similar to Greyhound.  The Executive class bus is the best.  You will get an assigned seat just like you would when you travel by plane.

I only recommend this type of travel if you are fluent in Spanish, or at least have some of the basic vocabulary down, as you will find very few people that speak English, so it will be very difficult for you to ask questions and directions.

Good Luck, and have fun on your trip!

Pam
