Mexico - spanish

Expert: Ron Russell - 3/22/2005

Question
We are going on a vacation in october to mexico and I am looking into some audio cds to learn spanish. I guess what my question is since you are a local, I have heard most of these programs dont really teach you the correct spanish for mexico, for instance someone told me, to say I speak spanish you would not say  hablo Castellano which is what most of these "Learn Spanish" cds teach you. It this true and if so do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Hola Tyra, you're right, many of these CDs don't teach Mexican Spanish.

My wife has gone through many of the available programs and tells me her favourite is the Living Language Series from Random House...Spanish for Beginners or those who want a thorough Review.  About $25. It does refer to the differences between Castillian and Mexican Spanish.

Best regards,
   Ron
