About Panya
Expertise
Currently, I have 33 mice 12 boys and 21 girls. I also have 2 cats and tropical fish. I can help with behavior problems (I've encountered plenty), breeding, most health problems etc. I don't know a lot about genetics in mice.

Experience
I have kept mice for 7 years and I have a lot of experience with mice (some they don't tell you in books!). I would like to share what I have learned. To the left is Freckles, who had 68 offspring in his lifetime (he was 1 year when I adopted him). Behind him is one of his sons.

Question
i bought a mouse from a pet store.  he was not in good shape, but his coat has got better and he is lively and eats well.  He sneezes alot, so i changed his bedding and he is better. His anus or testes look swollen, and then they retract.  he seems well in himself, but i am concerned that he is sick.  he doesn't act as if he is but i am concerned.

Answer
You did the right thing by changing his bedding as some types carry small particles such as sawdust. Wood shavings or chippings are a better option.

The testicles will only by visible when he is relaxed. Retraction is normal and theres nothing to worry about as they will come back.

You really need to find a buddy for you mouse as mice are social creatures and will become depressed if kept in solitary confinements. Try to find a mouse of approximately the same size and age, preferably from the same litter. You may have to get him from a different pet store as the one you mentioned probably doesn't look after them very well. Make sure the cage is big enough for however many you decide to house (just make sure they are all the same sex) and there are enough hiding places such as tubes and boxes.

Congratulations on recuperating this mouse, it shows what a caring pet owner you are.

Please feel free to ask any more questions.
