Mice/Red patches on mouse ears

This is an update on Dinah's situation. Unfortunately I was not able to take her to the vet due to financial problems, which I blame myself for since the mice are my responsibility and I owe it to them to keep them as healthy as I can, but it was unavoidable at the time. It has been two weeks since I've last seen those red patches, which I count as a win, however she is now panting quite heavily for no discernible reason. I changed her bedding to coconut husk, which the other mice are very pleased with, and she displayed no adverse reactions to it for the week and a half that I've been using the new bedding. She is not rubbing her eyes and nose and she is eating quite well (although not exercising as much). I'm sure that the best answer would be "take her to the vet", and I'm in a better position to do so now, but I'd like to hear some hypotheses about her problem. Thanks again!

I can answer questions about raising mice and caring for them as pets, with knowledge from my 38 years of having fancy mice as pets. I have NO MEDICAL TRAINING and you should take a sick mouse to the vet; but if you simply can't, I will try to help you. I LOVE PHOTOS!!! I ALSO LOVE UPDATES! Let me know how the little tyke is doing later on, for better or worse, especially orphans. It also helps me to help the next person. Please first search first: use 'Natasha Mice Mouse' with whatever else your question includes. Experience

I have had mice for 40 years (since I was 5!). I raised them when I was a child but now I keep all females, and never fewer than three so that if one dies the others are not devastated, because they have each other.
