Mice/My friend breeds mice

Dear Natasha,
It's been awhile so much has happened , Bandit (my poor little baby rat) died, my cat got pregnant and then lost her she's pregnant again, a friend of mine started breeding mice, and I literally now have a rat breeder on speed I'm getting a pair of male rats soon.
But my question is my friend is breeding mice...and I have no clue what to tell any tips would be appreciated.

HI Jada,

I am sorry for Bandit. We just lost a very very special rat (whose brother is named Bandit).

I thought you were going to relax on the rats for a while since you can't afford vet care? When things go wrong you and they are stuck...

I don't ever recommend breeding mice (or rats) at home without genetic knowledge, training, and pedigreed animals. Could you tell her she shouldn't? Even if they are healthy, it is next to impossible to rehome all the males because they usually have to live alone.

Here is what she needs to know. She should absolutely read the first one:

I can answer questions about raising mice and caring for them as pets, with knowledge from my 38 years of having fancy mice as pets. I have NO MEDICAL TRAINING and you should take a sick mouse to the vet; but if you simply can't, I will try to help you. I LOVE PHOTOS!!! I ALSO LOVE UPDATES! Let me know how the little tyke is doing later on, for better or worse, especially orphans. It also helps me to help the next person. Please first search first: use 'Natasha Mice Mouse' with whatever else your question includes. I have had mice for 40 years (since I was 5!). I raised them when I was a child but now I keep all females, and never fewer than three so that if one dies the others are not devastated, because they have each other.

I run Rats and Mice are Awesome on Facebook. The official name is Rats are Awesome.
