Question
QUESTION: Hello Lorry,
I use Juno dialup and XP. I've read where I can avoid using the actual Juno software to connect to the 'net (see www.pcnineoneone.com/howto/msdun1.html).  I believe that info is out of date.
Do you recommend this?  I never use their tool bar or anything, I just want IE and email via Outlook.
If so, can you get me a detailed step-by-step on how to do this in XP?

Thanks!,
Jeff

ANSWER: Hi Jeff,

Whether you use Juno or any other server (ISP), you will have to pay someone to get on-line. Compare the prices of Juno and DialUP:

http://www.juno.com/

http://www.dialupnet.com/

If you want Internet Explorer as your default browser:

     Internet Explorer 7.x:
        1. Open Internet Explorer.
        2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
        3. Select the Programs tab.
        4. Click Make Default button under Default web browser section to setup Internet Explorer as your default web browser.
        5. Check the box next to When Internet Explorer starts, prompt me if it's not the default web browser.
        6. Click OK.

Hope this helps!

QUESTION: Thank you, however, you misunderstood my question.  I realize I must pay someone to connect, and I'm ok with Juno.  My question is how, specifically, can I connect to the net, using a Juno access number, but without using their SOFTWARE?  The link I sent you shows you how in Windows 98, but XP is different.

ANSWER: Hi Jeff,

The directions I sent didn't help? Interesting as that should of solved the problem. That information came from Juno:

Are you trying to remove their branding in Internet Explorer? If yes, check out the following:

Is this what you are looking for?

QUESTION: Lorry,
No, that's not what I'm looking for.  Let me try re-phrasing: I would like to connect to the internet using Juno's access phone number, but without using their software.  If you could just go to this link, it should be very clear what I would like to do:

Later gater

Answer
Hi Jeff,

I did check the link you mentioned the first time and again before answering last night. Thought I had what you wanted to do, evidently not. Perhaps Sandeep Handoo can help you at:

http://www.allexperts.com/el/Microsoft-Internet-Explorer/

Noticed he is "maxed out" right now but hopefully you can get to him before too long.

Sorry I couldn't help you,
Lorry
