Microsoft Internet Explorer - connectivity problem

Expert: Sandeep Handoo - 5/15/2009

Question
You answered a question from earlier this month about Internet connectivity, and I have a similar problem.

My computer is connected through a broadband modem and the signal is strong, but when I open IE7 it says it cannot display the webpage. This happened suddenly last week.

I can access some financial pages that I visit often and the gmail login page, so this made me think virus or malware but my Trend Micro is running and scans clean.

I've tried the following:
I can ping any Web site from the command prompt.
I've disabled the firewall and antivitus and that doesn't change the situation.
I logged in using a different user profile and that didn't help.
I have not yet tried to browse using an Ip address.

Any other suggestions you can offer would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Justin,

In case you can browse using Ip address, then it might the problem due to host files. Also, in case you have "Always on Internet connection", then try to logon using "Safe mode with command prompt" to check if you can browse the websites from there.

In case you are unable to browse from there, then I would suggest to run Sfc /scannow.
