Microsoft Internet Explorer - emails will not open in my Inbox

Expert: Frances Rhea - 5/3/2009

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I cannot open my work emails in my Inbox. I click on it and all that comes up is a blank screen, and on top it says Windows Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo! I have a Windows Vista system and recently upgraded to windows Internet Explorer 8 fom yahoo.  Please help, Thank you.

ANSWER: Have you gotten the upgrades for IE8? If not, go to auto update at Microsoft, and let it check your system for updates. It is possible that an update will take care of the problem.

Let me know if that does not help.

QUESTION: Hi Francie,

I do get automatic updates from Microsoft. I noticed that alot of updates failed (did not see IE8). But I also noticed an important one for Security Update for Microsoft Works 8 (KB959487); Error code 80070643. I followed what they told me, but it keeps failing. Could this be contributing to my problems? I also notice when it tells me to check spelling, a blank screen comes up just saying: Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo!

Thanks.

Answer
I would check my computer online first for viruses at one of the following websites:

housecall.trendmicro.com
www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
security.symantec.com
www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/
http://safety.live.com

Then you should repair your version of Windows. Here is a link at Microsoft to tell you how to repair Vista:

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/5c59f8c1-b0d1-4f1a-af55-74f3...

Hope this helps.

Francie
