Microsoft Internet Explorer - problem logging in to secure websites

Expert: Sandeep Handoo - 5/11/2009

Question
I have a Gateway MT6705 Notebook running Windows Vista. For the past several days, I've been unable to log in to Yahoo and AOL. When I do try to log in, I get a message that a connection couldn't be found. However, I'm able to navigate the web without any problems -- except for secure (password protected) sites. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Richard

Answer
Hi Richard,

Regarding your issue, please try following steps.

Step 1.
-Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.

-Click the Advanced tab

-Scroll down to the Security section.
Make sure use SSL 2.0,3.0,TLS 1.0 is checked.

If it is already checked or does not help then try Step 2.

Step 2.

-Click Start, and then click Run.
-In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
-At the command prompt, type the following lines, and then press ENTER after each line:

regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

-Click OK when you receive the message that DllRegisterServer in FileName succeeded
-Type exit

Try to check if you are still facing the issue or not else try step 3.

Step 3.

-Click Start, and then click Run
-In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
-At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER.

Once it is complete, please check if you can browse the secure websites. In case you face any further issues, please feel free to write back to me.

Regards,
Sandeep Handoo
