Question
QUESTION: Hello Mr.Sandeep,
Well with the recent introduction of new virus, which it
seems is capable of crashing the system, I wanted to know
whether my anti-virus version would be still effective on
this. The McAfee version, installed in Oct 2007 on my
system and I constantly keep it updated. So could you tell
me if updating this version would prove right or should I
go in for any other anti-virus? Which is the latest and
most effective anti-virus software?

Thank you

ANSWER: Hi Thejaswini,

Well if you are updating the definition files of your antivirus, then you need not to worry about virus problem.Regarding your other query, Mcafee is a good antivirus and also I will suggest to take extra precautions while opening attachments and while browsing Internet.

Thanks and Regards,
Sandeep Handoo.

QUESTION: Hi Mr.Sandeep,

I have two queries.

1. I have a desktop PC connected to a wired modem with BSNL connection. I recently received a laptop, to which I want to set-up an Internet connection parallely through my existing Internet connectivity. So BSNL will not give me another modem, and the rental fee for Wi-Fi modem is expensive. So all I want to know is whether any such LAN modems are easily available in the market?? And can I set up a parallel connectivity with another (new) DSL cable and Network Cable, plug them into the new modem, which would in-turn be connected to the laptop, along with the same IP address etc.Is this possible?

2. I want to install a new antivirus software on my laptop. I would like to know, which is the best and free version of antivirus software that can be downloaded from the internet and protect my laptop as much as possible. Because I have heard and seen that virus problems are more difficult to solve on laptops as compared to desktops, am not sure if this is true.

I request you to provide a detailed explanation to my queries. Thanks a lot in advance.

Answer
Hi Thejaswini,

If you are updating the dat files of your Mcafee antivirus regularly, then you should be secure from the new Virus. However, I will still repeat that make sure you browse unknown websites cautiously and do not install any plugin, active x component from the website you dont trust or that is new for you. Also scan every attachment that you download via email and avoid opening emails from unknown senders.

In case you have any further questions, please let me know.

Thanks and Regards,
Sandeep Handoo.
