Question
Hi Sandeep,

It is with bliss that I tell you that with your help I am back in my computer. Such relief! You kept from from having my computer wiped, which not only would have cost me money but much anxiety.

Last question. I now have my original user, my new user, and of course my guest user. I am now browsing the old user files and anted to ask about what method I should use to transfer the old user files to the new user. Is there a particular location from which I should initiate the transfer, such as the c drive, or should I copy individual files?

Thank you again. You are the best!

Donna

Answer
Hi Donna,

In order to copy the files from the old user profile to the new profile, please follow the following steps:

1. Use Windows Explorer to go to your old user's folder, which is most likely c:\Users.

2. Press Alt, click Tools in the explorer window and select Folder Options.

3. Click View and make sure you've selected 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives'. Deselect 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)'. Click OK.

4. Select all files in this folder, except the ones that start Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, Ntuser.ini. Press Control-C or select Copy from the Edit menu (if you don't see the menu press Alt first).

Note  : Do Not Copy Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, Ntuser.ini. ntuser.pol or any file starting with NTuser.

Browse to your new user's folder (most likely c:\Users). Press Control-V or select Paste, or select Paste from the Edit menu (press Alt if you don't see this menu).

In case you have any question, please let me know and I will be more than happy to assist you again.

Thanks,
