Question I have a customer trying to access the secure part of our website. She is on Windows 2000 and is using IE vesion 6.0.2800.1106. When she clicks the link to gain access to the secure site she gets a window that says "This file already exists in your download list, would you like to add the duplicate." This is in no way a part of our website. If she says download now, nothing happens. If she says cancel, when she tries to acces again the same thing happens. Please help! I have tried everything that I know to try and have been searching the web for a fix.
Answer
two things...
1- security settings
2- the cache...
to access the secure part of a website...her browser must accept the script /activeX componet etc...to work...
..this is what happens when some how some security settings in her browser ask for the file to download...yet
does not allow it to execute...
A possible remedy is...
Clear all the TemP internet files ...or the cache...and also all the cookies... [sometime stale cookies too hinder ]
tools-->. internet options then delete files and delete cookeis normally works..
But
ccleaner available from www.filehippo.com goes a step
ahead and clears every thing...event he MRUs...and the hidden index.dat files...
anyway...clearing the cache and cookies is one step...
the next step is to check for security restrictions
Now I am not much familiar with Win2000 ....but some general guidelines...
check for the setting of her firewall if any..
in internet Explorer
tools-->> internet options then security Tab...
then clicking for the custom level button... should take to the screen from where you can control the behaviour of Activex components and scripts for various scenerious..
just go through them... and choose appropriately...
you can add the secure sites link in the trusted web sites list
also Tools-->> internet options then the Privacy tab..
then the advanced setting button allows you to change the cookies handling behaviour of the browser...
you can explore the various options...
Normally checking the override cookie handling option
then checking to allow session cookies should help..
also
Tools--->> internet options the clicking the content tab..
and if the secure site using certificates from certain publishers for authentiation.. then they too should be checked for and tested for their being not corrupt..
else clicking the autocomplete button...and clearing the passwords and forms and checking with the prompt for passwords option which by default is not checked...
should help...
Also again
Tools-->. internet options then the Advanced tab...
then enabling the install on demand option in the browsing section...
and chosing the appropriate security setting (SSL2,ssl3..TLS} will take care of it in the browser configration...
.. if all this fails then this means... some how the script is still unable to be executed...
in this case it is recomended to refresh you WSH (windows scripting Host) file downloadable from microsoft's site..
just search for it.... and download and install it.. the current verion is 5.6.... and it is required so as the script could run properly...
Hope it helps....
ps since I am not much familiar with Win2000 there fore i tried to cover a lot of ground...which I thought could be the possible causes....
By the way... have to tried any other browser... like say Firefox...or Netscape or Opera... if so... do the problems persists in those browsers too...!!..??
