Microsoft Internet Explorer - Windows Explorer crashing

Expert: Aquaris - 9/16/2004

Question
Hi,
Ive had this problem since Service Pack 1, and now with Service Pack 2 it got even worse. It looks like every time i open a Windows explorer (to browse local files) shortly after closing the window i get a error message from Windows saying that windows explorer has crashed. In SP1 this wouldnt so much maybe 1 out of every 3 times i used explorer more than 5 min to oraginize files and such. However, PLEASE HELP !!! its very annoying and i looked and looked for a cure and havent found anything.
Forgot to add that if i keep Explorer open more than a couple of minutes it will automatically cause an error and explorer will crash.

Answer

I  am  not much  familiar with  WinXp  ..

fortunately /unfortunately  I still use  Win98.

But it seems  Microsfot has a habit of creating more problems

then solving it.... sp2  has mixed review... mostly  ..

unfavourable...

all I could get... is..

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811113

which list various causes and some remedies....

I suggest you to first try the basics.

1- check for  adwares / spywares...

2- try repairing the system files...

I think  when you press F8 at start up  you are

presented with on the options to repair an installation.

3- Run the SFC  from within

Start then  from the run  type SFC...

hope fully it will repair  any  corrupt system files..

which might be causing this..

Hope it helps..
