Microsoft Internet Explorer - blurred pictures on websites

Expert: Aquaris - 5/13/2005

Question
I've been using a friends laptop and recently he had a friend(expert) wash the laptop clean due to problems installing an antivirus program. It now works fine-except that on some web pages(like ebay) some of the pictures or graphics are blurred. On ebay the thumbnails sometimes are blurry as well as the ads at the top of the page. It also does it on other pages- the company logo may be clear but the thumbnails are not-even if you enlarge them. We tried changing the resolution on the start page but it just messed with the size of my wallpaper. helppp! I can't see clearly. debbie using windows xp

Answer

there could be  many causes...

1- The picture posted is already of low quality....
2- you video card driver is out dated.
3- you brower is older one.

For 1 you cannot do much...

But try...
Click the tools--->> Internet Option  in your browser..
Then go to Advanced tab...
and scroll down to...Multimedia section...
and check  smart image dithering option...

for 2 and 3

a) check the manufaturer of your video card...
go to their website....and download the latest version of
the driver for you video card..
or
Go to microsoft's update site...and find the update for you video card driver there....it will eventually refer you to the manufacturer site...But the advantage is it will scan you system to check first...

... update you browser... again from the microsoft's site..

or alternately use any other browser  like  Netscape, Opera, Mozilla  or  Firefox... which is  having great reviews these day...

hope it helps...

some more suggestiions..

do you have DirectX installed... if no.. then Again go to Microsoft's site...and download  Directx  latest version..
it is helpfull  to enhance the graphic capabilities of your video card...

..PS  you can always choose appropriate  resolution setting from

Right clicking anywhere on the desktop...and then the properties option...and then choosing the settings tab...

Normally  I prefer  a  800X600  with  24 Bit resolution desktop... you can choose your liking...

Hope it helps...
