Microsoft Internet Explorer/microsoft visual c runtime library

Questionwhen i try to access internet explorer from my desk top(which i have done since buying my computer) i get the following dialogue box message
"runtime error-- Prog-c;\program files\internet explorer\explore.exe. This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. my computer is windows 98. if i click on my computer icon for my computer and use the drop down menu from hard drive c and click on internet explorer i can get into it. also when using my e-mail( outlook express) and there is a web site referred to on my message i get the above runtime error appearing and cannot access from my e-mail. i trust i have explained my problem correctly await your reply. thank you

AnswerClick on Start, Program Files, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. When the program opens, click on Tools (I think). Select File Checker. Set the program to run in Advanced Mode and for the system to notify you of errors. (You can also do it silent.) Replace any corrupt files. Add missing files. When complete, end the program and restart your computer.
Try the Internet. If that did not help, open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Find IE in the list and click Uninstall/Remove. At the next dialog select Repair and OK. When finished you will need to restart. Try the Internet again.
