Question
Hi I'm unable to log in - this morning was fine and then next time i turned the laptop on it would not let me sign in. I get a message saying "we can't sign you in to windows live messenger.  Signing into windows live messenger has failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later"  "Error code 8100030d"

I have looked up the error code and I've tried pausing my kaspersky anti virus software to see if that did anything and when i do that i get a different message - "We can't sign you into windows live messenger.  There might be a problem with your internet connection.  Make sure your computer is connected to the internet.  Click troubleshoot to try and fix this problem.  Error code 80072745"  If i click troubleshoot it runs the basic tests and all have ticks next to them except wireless which has nothing.  It say progress completed and if i click repair i get the message - "Windows live messenger's connection troubleshooter was unable to identify and repair the connection problem. However here are some other resources that might help you. (error code: 80072745).  When i look that up it says -"Error 80EF01F7, 80072745, or 80072746: Service is not available
This feature is not available in some markets.

You may receive one of these error messages if the Windows Live Call service is unavailable. Try the following to resolve the problem:

Wait a few minutes, and then try your call again.
Note
To check the status of Windows Live Call, visit the Windows Live Call Network Status website." I've checked the status and it is all running fine.

I have tried clearing my dns resolver cache but it fails it says " could not flush dns resolver cache:function failed during execution".  My internet proxy settings are correct and i don't believe its blocked by a firewall - the only 1 i have is what came with the laptop (windows defender)- i have tried turning windows defender off and it makes no difference - i don't know what else to do?? can you help? - i have tried uninstall and reinstalling and it didn't work.  I have also tried a system restore which didn't work. I can access my hotmail account using my windows live id but not messenger.

Thanks for your time

Andrew

Answer
Hey Andrew,

Click Start and then click Explore to open Windows Explorer.  On the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options. Click the View tab. In the Advanced settings list, select Show hidden files and folders under Hidden Files and Folders. Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box. Click OK to close the Folder Options window.
Delete the Contacts Cache folder. To do so, right-click Start, and then click Explore to open the Windows Explorer window. In the Windows Explorer window, locate the folders below and delete all the files and folders  inside them.
C:\Users\ Your Windows logon name \Contacts\ Your Messenger e-mail address
C:\Users\ Your Windows logon name \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\ Your Messenger e-mail address

Note: Windows Logon name is the logon name that you use to sign in to windows. Your Messenger email address is the address that you use to sign in to Messenger.

Try to sign in to Messenger again.
