Question
I spoke to my internet service provider with this problem and his answer was to downgrade back to internet internet explorer 7 he said that windows vista is having problems with the explorer 8 is this true and if so what do I do?

Answer
Hi Jeanie,

Funnily enough, I just experienced the same problem as you and spent 2 solid hours trying to find a fix for it. Although I am not an Internet Explorer expert, I do believe I have the solution for you.

I installed Internet Explorer 8 about 3 hours ago after Windows Vista had a balloon pop up in the task tray saying that some updates were ready to install. After checking the importance of the update (which was "important"), I decided to go ahead and install IE8. Once IE8 finished installing, it told me to restart the computer. I restarted, and then immediately afterwards it stated that Windows can't find any networks when I tried to connect. I tried another computer in my house to see if it was able to connect to the internet through wireless, and it worked fine, but my computer still didn't. That told me that it was something definitely with my computer and verified that IE 8 was what screwed up my connection.

What I did to fix it was click Start, Run, type: devmgmt.msc
Hit enter.

In the window that pops up, it'll say "Network Adapters", click the plus sign next to it, and then right click on one that says WLAN, and select ENABLE.

This should get your wireless to connect again!!

Hi Jeanie,

Internet Explorer 8 should work fine on Windows Vista. I don't know why he would suggest to downgrade. If you are unable to connect to the internet through Internet Explorer 8 but are able to use the internet still (e-mail in Outlook, instant messenger, etc), then chances are you have to adjust some settings in IE 8 to get it to connect. IE 8 is faster than IE 7. I'd find the problem with the settings in IE 8 and stick with IE 8 than go back to IE 7.
