Microsoft Network (MSN) Q`s - Corrupted MSN Software

Expert: Frances Rhea - 2/13/2007

Question
I recently began having trouble accessing my e-mail from My MSN home page.  Now, I can't access it at all.  When I click on E-Mail, I immediately get the msg: "MSN has encountered a problem and needs to close."  (BTW, I always click on the "Send Error Message" box, but suspect that's just a waste of time.) I have multiple accounts for family members that feed into one Home Page we all share, so it's a hassle to have to now have to backdoor our way individually into our separate accounts via Hotmail.  A friend says my MSN software may have become corrupted and I'll need to uninstall/reinstall it.  I have backed up our e-mail and folders to import after MSN is reinstalled, but we're only computer savvy enough to get ourselves in trouble!!!  No little kids at home anymore to help us -- ha!  I am unable to find anything on the MSN website that would help me do the uninstall/reinstall correctly to fix the corrupted files.  There are too many pages to look through and nothing comes close to my search parameters.  Can you give me instructions -- or direct me to the right link?  I've had a couple of dealings with Tech Support on other issues and don't want to have to go through that again, if I can help it.  Thank you very much for your help.

Answer
MSN explorer should be easy to repair. Open your Control Panel and find MSN. Select it and click on Uninstall/Change. At the next dialog box, select Repair and OK or Continue. Reboot when the process is complete and see if that helped.

If not, click Start, Run. Type in 'sfc /scannow' and click OK. When finished, reboot and try MSN again.

If that does not help, let me know.

Fran
