Microsoft Network (MSN) Q`s - clearing search history for google

Expert: Frances Rhea - 12/30/2007

Question
I have tried the suggested methods of clearing my Google search history. I've gone into Internet Explorer, selected Tools, then Internet Options, then Content. Within the Personal Information area, I selected AutoComplete. Then I unchecked the Forms box and selected Clear Forms. I use MSN and was told that by doing the above and logging out of and back into MSN all would be clear. This however, has not worked for me. Am I doing something wrong?

Answer
The two cheapest options I have found are the tweakui interface that Microsoft has. It used to be on the windows install disk, but now must be downloaded from Microsoft. It is in the Developer Toys. Do a search on the MS site for tweakui download, and it should give locations for all versions of windows. It installs in Control Panel where you can open it, and set to remove all windows history at startup.

The other tool is Ad-Aware SE. Although it is meant for spyware, it does a really good job of removing registry entries from searching on your computer along with recent files lists.

The other solution is paid software that specifically protects your privacy such as IEHistoryX located here:

I doubt if you are doing anything wrong. It is just that sometimes removing all instances of your computer history is complicated since Windows stores history info in many places.

Hope this helps.
