Question
Good morning Jim.......

I have actively used my Microsoft Outlook 2002 for several years now, using only Calendar, Contacts and Notes.  I have always manually backed up my ‘C’ drive on an external hard drive.  Recently I thought I would try one of the new automatic backup programs.  These gave me problems and in investigating these problems with the new program technical people, I was advised by a couple of different ‘experts’ that my operating system needs to be reinstalled for there was a corruption on the XP Operating System and this was preventing the computer from recognizing the external drive automatically.  I started preparing for that long job of reinstalling the Window XP Operating System, and toward that end began investigating how to return my Outlook with all its Notes, Contacts and Calendar entries.  I could not find where those entries were stored on my ‘C’ drive.  I thought I could just copy those three files to my external hard drive and when Outlook was reinstalled from my original disk, I could just replace the three information files from my external drive to their correct location on my ‘C’ drive, and all would be well. Can you advise me where Outlook stores the current Calendar, Contacts and Notes information on my ‘C’ drive.  Needless to say the following points are valid, I am not computer educated and your advice will be appreciated.

Answer
Microsoft has provided an automated backup application for Outlook 2000/2002 users. Simply download and install the program and you will be able to perform routine backups of all your Personal Folders. The link is listed below:

There is also a tutorial at the following link for manually backing up and restoring your Outlook data. The one for version 2003 will be the same for you:

Jim.
