Microsoft Outlook - Transferring outlook 2003 from one computer to new computer

Expert: Nancy Janyszeski - 9/29/2009

Question
I saw a similar post as this, but party was transferring to VISTA.  I will be transferring from XP Pro to XP Pro.  I have always used Outlook Express and have had no problem transferring all files from old to new.  However, Outlook seems to be set up alot different.  I cannot find the files.  I know that they are not listed as dbx or identities.

Answer
Denise, you transfer files from Outlook using the File menu > Import/Export

What format you use depends on whether the versions are the same that are being exports and imported.

You would export XP to XP the same way you export from XP to Vista

If the import comuter has a new version of Outlook you can export in any version, perferably *.pst.

I would export in at least two formats in case one import isn't what you want.

You export each object (Inbox, Calendar, contacts) separately and you have to be careful that one file does not over write the previous.

You can check Outlook help for details on exporting and importing.
