Question I'm working on a MAC 10.4 using Office for MAC 2007. I found this thread (please see below) but wondered if there is a way to compress the sound file on a MAC as this appears to be a windows based answer.

Question
Powerpoint 2003
How do you reduce (compress) wav files prior to embedding into a slide show? I have received very nice pps shows with music playing all the way through, and the file size is only about 3mb. When I tried to add about a 7 minute song, my slide show grew from about 3 mb to 220 mb.
Thank you.
Hi Bob,
Wow 220mb is very big indeed.
Steps to take in order to compress your wav files.
1. Click start>>programs>>accessories>>entertainment>>sound recorder
2. In your sound recorder program click file>>open. Locate your wav file and click open
Now to compress the file
1. Click file>>properties
2. Under file conversion click on convert now
3. The sound selection box should appear. Under Name scroll down to Radio Quality.
Note: If you choose telephone it will compress the size even smaller however it will not sound as good so leave it to radio for now until you have determined the compressed size.
4. Click ok and then click ok again to exit out of the properties.
5. Goto file and click save as>>Name the file and click save.
*Now go to your new saved wav file and check if it was reduced. If it has been compressed significantly then proceed to insert the wav file in powerpoint. If you have any trouble let me know so I can further assist you.
And I must confess that I'm not so familiar with Mac system. You could go to ask in the mac PowerPoint newsgroup. Have a look here http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00024.htm
