Question
Hi,
I tried to insert a word document into a powerpoint, by using the Insert/Object/From file
The .doc is inserted and an icon is displayed in my ptt doc.
But when I open the powerpoint in diaporama mode and click on the icon, the word document is not open. Nothing happens.

Answer
You need to add an Object Actions animation to the Word document for that to happen.

I don't know which version of PowerPoint you are using -- this is how you would do it in PowerPoint 2010:

1. Select the inserted Word object on your slide.

2. Access the Animations tab of the Ribbon, and click the large "Add Animation" button to bring up the drop-down Animation gallery.

3. Right at the bottom of the gallery, click the "OLE Action Verbs" option.

4. In the resultant dialog, choose the "Open" option, and click OK.

Have a great day.
