Question
How do I convert a PPS file back to PPT so I can make changes?

Answer
Ed, open the file using PowerPoint and from the File Menu >Save As under Save as type select the *.ppt extension.

Keep in mind you will now have two versions of the same presentation and in order to use as a *.pps you will have to save as again.

Using the *.pps extension.

Hopefully this is what you are looking for.  I can not duplication the application or document you are using, but if it leads to a resolve a kind review would be appreciated.  If not perhaps ask another to a different point of view.
